Guild Wars 2 goes Halloween

Everybody sing it with me! ♫♪ This is Halloween! This is Halloween! Pumpkins scream in the dead of night! This is Halloween, everybody make a scene, trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright! It’s our town, everybody scream, in this town of Halloween♪♫

You can thank Danny Elfman later.

In all seriousness, Guild Wars 2 has gone Halloween! Watch out for the Shadow of the Mad King!

Halloween comes just once a year;
it’s an evening of fun, there’s nothing to fear.
Children dress up in spooky disguises
and trick or treat for Halloween prizes.
But there are whispers of warning in the crisp autumn air:
“the Mad King will return, so you better beware!”

Don’t listen to fools and the stories they tell;
Mad King Thorn isn’t real, you know very well.
So come, walk awhile in the pale moonlight;
discover what waits in the dark of night.
All that is missing from our party is you!
Celebrate Halloween in Guild Wars 2.

That’s right. That’s the loading screen for Lion’s Arch. And man, is it total mayhem in there. But, it is also a lot of fun!

Why yes, that IS Amalia Beetham chillaxing next to a giant Jack-O-Lantern with a bunch of floating candles everywhere. And yes she IS dressed like a pirate, though that is actually her everyday normal set of armor.

From what we’ve seen so far, there is mayhem in Lion’s Arch, and some of the mining sites for various ores have been turned into “raw candy corn” that are mined for more candy corn, which can then be eaten (which will earn achievements for the month) or you can use them to power special items that are only for use during this time. They can also be used to purchase weapon items.

Act 1, which launched on October 22, 2012, also gave us some “Halloween Doors” that will spawn one of three things: An enemy (a “bite sized candy corn” elemental, a “candy corn” elemental, a gargoyle, skeleton, mummy or plastic spider; The fighting of these will lead to the “Halloween Huntin'” achievement), a special dynamic event, or a trick-or-treat bag (basically, a bag with several items in it, such as the Booty Bag dropped by pirates).

Locations of these doors have been found in Queensdale, Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields.

We also now have the Shadow of the Mad King Scavenger Hunt, which looks fun, but also quite time consuming. Probably would be awesome if any of my characters were L. 80… but I digress.

The hunt starts in Lion’s Arch, and goes on from there. To start it, speak with Magister Tassi, and you’ll get going. I’m not going to post a walk through of it here. I don’t have that much time. I’ve got a game to play, people!

I will update more as I learn more, but for now, here are more images of Halloween in Lion’s Arch.

A pumpkin I carved. Looks more like a gourd, but whatever.

The Costume Brawl in Lion’s Arch.

More brawling in Lion’s Arch.
